Do you not speak up because you’re afraid of what other people will think? Do you procrastinate on important projects because you get anxious about doing the “right” thing? Do you have a recurring fear or anxiety that affects your quality of life? Does anxiety prevent you from connecting with people?
I’ve been there. It’s rough, and I’m here to tell you that change is possible. Anxiety does not have to be a crippling, overwhelming experience. It doesn’t have to prevent you from following your heart. The voice of anxiety can be quieted to a whisper or eliminated altogether so it doesn’t run your life. You can have the freedom to choose what you want, whether that’s connecting with new people, speaking up when you want, taking action on big projects, or just living day to day with more peace of mind.
Sure, there are drugs or anxiety medications that may help alleviate symptoms, but if you prefer an alternate approach that can provide long-lasting results, read on. With somatic coaching, bodywork and energy healing, you can heal whatever is contributing to anxiety. Over time you can become less dependent on outside means and more empowered to heal yourself, sans medications or other aids.
Stress and strain
Everything, everyone in the universe experiences stress. Trees experience stress from wind. Occasionally they're uprooted, but most trees dance in the wind and remain standing when the air settles. Those that topple are more strained than others. Perhaps they've withstood a lot of stress over time and are more susceptible to strain.
Everyone experiences different levels and types of stress. Sometimes we can decrease the amount of stress in our lives - switching to a more fulfilling job, perhaps. Sometimes we have less control over it. Raising children, for example, can be one of the most challenging aspects of life - there's typically a wide range of stresses for many years, and most parents that I know choose to carry out at least the basic parental duties for 18+ years, even when they feel monumentally overwhelmed. So how can we create more ease in life? How can we prevent stress from creating excess strain?
Nervous system regulation
Although it may be seem impossible to decrease the amount of stress in your life, it's relatively easy to decrease the strain experienced in response to stress - it will just take some time and dedication to healing.
The body and mind store a lot of patterns and traumas large and small that show up as pain or tension, lack of sleep, anxiety and depression. You may get a massage to relieve tension, only to have it show up again later. Do you want to develop the capacity to release tension on your own? Do you want to live with more vitality? To be at ease with daily stresses? To avoid excess strain? Are you willing to put in the effort to expand the capacity of your nervous system?
A healthy nervous system will allow you to experience a wide range of highs and lows without spinning out into anxiety or depression. How much joy would you like to experience? How much ease would you like to have with difficult experiences? When you aren't tied to anxiety, you have more possibility of choice in your life, more freedom to live the life you want.
